Description

  • Type: Closed-return, atmospheric-type wind tunnel
  • Refrigerated for all-year operation

Test Chamber Dimensions

  • Height: 1.8 m (6 ft.)
  • Width: 2.7 m (9 ft.)
  • Length: 6.1 m (20 ft.)

Tunnel Accessibility

  • Model delivery access door - (10.5 ft. w by 10.67 ft. high)
  • Balance chamber access door - (9.08 ft. w by 8.25 ft. high)
  • Diffuser access hatch - (8 ft. high by 10 ft. wide)
  • Personnel access door - (4.5 ft. wide by 5.25 ft. high)

Performance and Capability

  • Continuous air speeds from 50 to 350 knots
  • Mach number variation ±0.005 Mach
  • Year-round temperature as low as -25°F, controllable to +/-1°F
  • Supercooled water droplets between 15 and 50 microns
  • Water content controllable between 0.2 and 2.5 g/m3 can be produced to form an icing cloud 6 ft by 5 ft
  • 8.67 ft. diameter turntable can be rotated ±20 degrees

  • Heated air
  • 150-psig at flows up to 5-lb/sec to temps up to 500°F
  • 125-psig at flows up to 0.1 lb/s to temps up to 700°F
  • Steam service at 40-psig
  • Service or shop air at 125-psig
  • Altitude exhaust - 26-in Hg at flows calibrated from 0.1 to 85-lbm/sec

  • Temperature measurements - oven inputs can handle type K-, T-, J-, or E-,thermocouples

  • Three point calibration every 15 minutes
  • Single and multi-cyclic scanning from one Record button
  • Standard (CRT) output and Nonstandard (custom data plots, calculations or specific data) outputs available
  • Facility workstations include a Silicon Graphics Model 4D Indigo system running IRIX 5.2 System V
