Heat Transfer Facilities - W-5A-3
3-D Subsonic Tunnel

W-5A-3 Facility Description
This test rig is one of three in cell W-5A. The turbine vane cascade is used to obtain aerodynamic and heat transfer data for turbine van geometries. It is a three van -four passage high aspect ratio cascade. Tests are conducted over a wide range of Reynolds and Mach numbers. Inlet air is supplied by the 40 psig combustion air system. Air exhausts to the low pressure altitude exhaust system at pressures as low as 2 psia. Blown air turbulence grids are used to provide high and uniform turbulence at the inlet. Survey slots are located upstream and downstream of the vanes. Infrared (IR) camera access is available from three access ports using IR transparent windows. Escort-D (a data collection system) is used for low frequency data acquisition. IR camera image data is acquired using a PC based system. Hot wire data are also acquired using a PC based system.
